The 2017 VW Passat is a European midsize sedan that is built in USA, in Chattanooga, Tennessee. For this year model it comes with a revised interior and new connectivity and driver assistance systems available with lower trim levels. It is available with two engine options and there is one more trim level available: V6 SE with Technology. Main rivals of the new VW Passat 2017 are Ford FusionToyota CamryHonda Accord and Nissan Altima.

Just like its predecessor, the 2017 VW Passat features fully chromed grille surrounded with slimmer LED headlights and topped with the muscular hood. Rear side of the car is European styled with a chrome strip that joins the trunk lid with headlights. Higher models come equipped with Easy Open trunk feature that allows the driver with key to open the trunk only by swinging its foot under the rear bumper. The new Passat is available in 8 different exterior colors: Deep Black Pearl, Fortana Red Metallic, Platinum Gray, Pure White, Reef Blue, Reflex Silver Metallic, Titanium Beige Metallic and Urano Gray that is available only with R-Line trim level. There are seven trim levels available: S, R-Line, SE, SE with Technology, SEL Premium, V6 SE with Technology and V6 SEL Premium.

Two tone interior, center console and dashboard are first things that you can spot entering into the new Passat. It is designed especially for the US car market. Two dial faces and display are main elements of the instrument cluster. Base models get high quality cloth trim with 8-way adjustable front seats while higher models come with powered seats with leather trim. Bluetooth and USB connection for adequate devices are standard for all Passats.


MIB II is standard infotainment system that is available with all models and it comes with either a 5- or 6.33-inch touchscreen display. It features Car-Net system that allows connectivity for three biggest smartphone platforms: Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and MirrorLink. Higher trim levels are available with Car-Net Security &Service and Car-Net Guide & Inform features.

When it comes to driver assistance features every Volkswagen Passat comes equipped with rearview camera as standard. There are also radar-based Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) and Forward Collision Warning systems as standard equipment on all models. There are also plenty of available systems such as Autonomous Emergency Braking, Blind Spot Monitoring system, Rear Traffic Alert system, Lane Departure Warning system (Lane Assist), Park Distance Control (Park Pilot) and Parking Steering Assistant (Park Assist).

New VW Passat 2017 specs and price

There are two available engines under the hood of the new VW Passat 2017. Base engine is 1.8-liter TSI turbocharged inline 4 with direct-injection technology. It produces 170 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque and it comes paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. Fuel economy is rated at 23/34 mpg (city/hwy).

Second engine is powerful 3.6-liter VR6 with 280 horses and 258 lb-ft of torque. Changing gears on Passat VR6 is available through a 6-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission with paddle shifters mounted on steering wheel with the SEL Premium trim. When it comes to fuel economy it is rated at 20/28 mpg in city/highway.
