The 2018 Ford Explorer is due for release this year and Ford is busy readying their new version of one of their popular models, the Explorer. However there are rumors according to many sources that Ford is planning to work on a next generation SUV. Coming back to the Explorer 2018, it is to be a FWD and not a RWD. Main rivals of the next generation of Explorer is going to be Toyota Highlander, Nissan Pathfinder, Honda Pilot, Dodge Durango and Chevy Traverse.
That is not yet confirmed and latest news is that, they are going to make use of the older use of RWD. The luxury division of Ford, which is Lincoln is coming up with the luxury based model SUV which will be made for the Chinese and American markets. It is to be made for replacing the Navigator.
2018 Ford Explorer review of redesign
Unfortunately for Ford lovers, there is some bad news as far as the exteriors go because there are not official images or pictures which have been released by the automobile company. Perhaps, they want to increase the anticipation levels or have some surprises in store for their customers, we don’t know. It will be available in four trim levels: Base, XLT, Limited, Sport and Platinum.
If the car maker goes with the same platform, then the exterior might not even have the basic changes. However if they want to go with a new platform, then you will find dramatic restyling. But, based on the older platform we can say that it will come with sporty suspension, 20-inch rims, powered sunroof, premium Sony sound system, and powered leather seats for the top end variant.
We absolutely have no idea about the interiors as there are no official images or pictures which we can look at and tell about. However you can expect some minor changes at least in the media system which will be equipped with 500-watt Sony audio system with Live Acoustics and Clear Phase. For some reason, this always happens to be classic and lacks the modern touch and feel when compared to other car rival makers.
One thing is sure, it will be equipped with Enhanced active park assist system with front and rear cameras. For better safety there are Lane-keeping system, Blind spot information system (BLIS), Cross-traffic alert, Adaptive cruise control and collision warning with brake support.
New Ford Explorer 2018 specs
Well, the new 2018 Ford Explorer is going to be known as the next generation SUV and that certainly means you can find a reworked V6 or 4 cylinder EcoBoost engine. Its predecessor is powered by 2.3-liter EcoBoost inline-4 that delivers 280 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque. This base engine offers a little less power but offers considerably more torque than 3.5-liter naturally aspirated V6 that offers 290 horses and “just” 255 lb-ft of torque. Equipped with two turbochargers its power bumps to 365 horses and torque rise up to 350 pounds of feet. All models are equipped with 6-speed SelectShift automatic gearbox and all of them can be equipped with all-wheel drive with the Terrain Management system.
2018 Ford Explorer price and release date
The face-lifted version of the Explorer was released in the 2016 model and while some feel that it is too early to release a new version. We expect the new Ford Explorer 2018 will come this year slightly revamped. For that reason, just in 2018, the car maker will decide to go ahead. So, you can expect the 2018-year model is going to be released somewhere around the mid May or June. Though there is no official communication on that. The base models of the 2018 Ford Explorer should retain their prices of $33,000 and the top end models at $55,000.
